CrossFit Revamps Website, Reveals Worldwide Ranking System and Season Details

New face, lots of new info.

CrossFit’s website received a completely new look as of this morning. And better yet, for CrossFit lovers, it revealed information about the much-awaited worldwide ranking system and some season details for future competitions.

The new website not only was revamped in its looks but also added a few new info. For people who love to compete, but are amateur and find it difficult to find licensed events close to them, HQ finally helped them out. Now there is a page on the top named “Competitions” in which you can see all licensed tournaments programmed worldwide in chronological order.

CrossFit Season Details

CrossFit Quarterfinals

The rulebook didn’t change the percentage of athletes that go from the Open to the Quarterfinals. The top 10% of individuals and age groups and the top 25% of teams advance to the next phase.

The new website, however, made it easier for athletes and teams to know exactly what that means. It shows which position they must be to qualify for the Quarterfinals. This number is updated constantly as more people and teams register for the Open.

As of February 1st 11:00 Am CET time, here is what that looks like for individuals.

CrossFit Games

We knew previously the days the official season competitions would take place. However, CrossFit has revealed a detailed breakdown of how the CrossFit Games will unfold.

The CrossFit Games takes place in Madison, Wisconsin, from August 1-6 this year.

  • Teens, Masters, Adaptive – August 1-3 (Tuesday to Thursday)
  • Individual – August 3-6 (Thursday to Sunday)
  • Teams – August4-6 (Friday to Sunday)

The individual competition with the best of the best elite athletes will begin on Thursday (August 3rd) while the teams’ division begins a day later. They both finish on Sunday night.

CrossFit’s New Worldwide Ranking System

This was perhaps the biggest change in the Sport’s rulebook. The introduction of CrossFit’s worldwide ranking system will shape how many spots each CrossFit Semifinal competition will have so that athletes can qualify to the Games in Madison.

After many questions on how this would work out, CrossFit has revealed a little bit more about it.

In general, the more athletes have points, the better he is. The more points a region has (a combination of athletes from that region combined) the stronger that region is and more qualifying spots will be awarded for that Semifinal region. CrossFit, however, has not revealed how this strength-of-field will affect the number of qualifying spots for the Semifinals.

the points system below is retroactively only to the past two years. Numbers will be updated after Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and the CrossFit Games.

CrossFit Open & Quarterfinals

Athletes will receive points based on their percentile finish in the Open and the Quarterfinals.

For the Open, that means the overall winner will receive 1,000 points. The 99th percentile of athletes will receive 990 points, the 98th percentile athletes will get 980 points and so on.

For the Quarterfinals, the logic is the same, but the points are doubled. The winner of Quarterfinals will receive 2,000 points while the 99th percentile athletes receive 1,980, the 98th percentile 1,960 and so on.

CrossFit Semifinals

Different Semifinals will have different points allocated to athletes. Winners of any Semifinal will earn 4,000 points, but 2nd place will receive different points based on their Semifinal region.

Semifinals will also award different qualifying spots to athletes, thus changing the pointing system of the table below (this table below is an example of how the points would be awarded based on the 2022 Semifinals and was first shared by The Barbell Spin).

Based on these numbers, an athlete can earn a maximum of 14,000 each year if he/she wins the Open, Quarterfinals, Semifinals and the CrossFit Games. Since the worldwide ranking system is based on a two-year period, the maximum points an athlete can have at any given moment is 28,000.
